The Nuu chah nulth Tlu-Piich Games start this week!

This year’s Tlu-Piich games start off tomorrow Tuesday August 11th at Bob Daily Stadium in Port Alberni. The weather looks great for the entire week, so be sun smart and wear sunscreen and a hat, and make sure to drink lots of water!

This years activities are include track and field, soccer and basketball along with a Language Treasure Hunt. For more culture related activities there are traditional games on Friday, and cultural events each night. To wrap things up there are the canoe races! Additionally there is a free outdoor movie at Bob Dailey on Wednesday at 9pm sponsored by the Alberni Auto Group. The closing ceremonies take place at the Harbour Quay Centennial Pier at 1:30 pm on Sunday August 16th.

There are plenty of volunteer opportunities this week for both youth and adults, with many prizes to be won such as a laptop and a Kitchen Aid mixer! Each 2 hours you volunteer you get your name into the draw, and each 4 hours you get a meal voucher. The Tlu-piich Games have always been ran by volunteers, so keep the tradition alive and show your community spirit by putting a little bit of time in and win something while you’re at it!

For our Hupacasath Youth, Carolina has ordered another run of tie-dye t-shirts for the Hupacasath team uniform. You must be participating in the games to get our one of a kind t-shirts. We need more participants for the canoe races this year, so come on out for a friendly competition!
