April 5, 2019 Update from Environmental Assessment Office

Dear Steve,

The EAO has been notified by Kwispaa LNG Limited Partnership that work on the Kwispaa LNG project has been put on pause. As a result, the EAO will not be advancing the environmental assessment of the project at this time and will not resume the assessment until receiving notice from the proponent that they will be resuming work.

The EAO issued a section 10 order on November 7, 2018 requiring an environmental assessment and a provincial environmental assessment certificate before Kwispaa LNG can proceed. At this time this legal order remains valid.

The EAO also offered funding to Hupačasath First Nation on February 12, 2019, for participation in the pre-application stage of the environmental assessment. Since there are no next steps anticipated in the environmental assessment process at this time, the EAO is no longer in a position to offer this funding.

It was a real pleasure having initial discussions with Hupačasath on the Kwispaa LNG project, and I was looking forward to working with you on this environmental assessment. Please contact me at 778 974-3361 or Edwin Hubert at 778 698-9323 or Edwin.Hubert@gov.bc.ca if you have any questions.

Yours truly,

Meaghan
